Countdown to Christmas (I know its June!!)
What was I thinking? (In another previous incarnation…a lengthy one at that!...I worked in the hospitality/catering industry!) I have answered the call for help of an old work colleague who is now a dear friend. She’s a restaurant consultant and has asked me to help her out on a job in The City. “Rota to suit me and it’s only for a few weeks”. Someone give me a good slap! It’s the run up to Christmas and everyone is out partying and celebrating except us eejits working 12 hour shifts in the kitchen! If I never see another piece of turkey in my life… and it’s only November!
I thought this would be easy…a few days at work in the restaurant and then I could devote the rest of my time to Tobias Designs. This is what happens when you’re waiting for samples to come through from potential suppliers and you feel like you’re getting nowhere.
My business plan had me running a successful Christmas market stall in Greenwich in the weeks leading up to Christmas but as I haven’t got anything to sell at the moment it’s back to slaving over a hot stove! Mid December…I throw in the towel! My dearest friend Philip and longtime cooking partner decides he needs to sell off some of the old crockery and kitchen wares that we accumulated when we ran our ‘pop up’ restaurant…(how many jobs have I had!!!) so we head to Stoke Newington and have 2 days of hilarity and not a great deal of selling success, but as I said I have nothing to sell yet! It definitely cheers me up even though he doesn’t look like he’s having fun!
