After my chance encounter with Laura Stoddart at The London Stationery Show I had contacted the company she uses for her paper range. Before heading off for my summer holidays I had secured an introduction, drove down to the West Country for a meeting and had exchanged quotes, samples and artwork. I set off to my Greek haven safe in the knowledge that on my return we would be proceeding with our own artwork samples and subsequently hopefully placing an order for our potential Christmas market. Instead I return to very disappointing news that this very well established family run firm has been sold to a large company who are not interested in doing business with small start up ventures like ours. It’s a real blow to me! I have struggled to find a company which can supply a quality range in small quantities and have come up against a brick wall when asking other similar businesses to share their contacts.
It’s definitely back to the drawing board for us and I’m feeling anxious that our Christmas plans may be stalled before they have begun. However one thing I’m sure of is, that as our little business plan takes shape and we hopefully grow, I will always be ready to help and support others who come looking for advice because it’s not easy! I know!
