Ever since our fabric samples arrived, I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect finish for our cushion samples. From searching the internet, stalking social media, creating Pinterest boards and traipsing round haberdashery shops…I’ve done it all.
To be honest, I’ve been like a dog with a bone! I had paid a visit to our cushion manufacturers for a meeting about zips and for their expert advice on the best way to finish our cushions. They had a few offcuts of the most beautiful brush fringe, but unfortunately, it wasn’t the right colour. That was the start of my obsession to track down precisely that trim in our colours and tones. Except I couldn’t find it! My search took me all over the country,
I spent an afternoon in Brick Lane and another in Soho. I even dragged ‘The Greek’ around Monistiraki in Athens. It’s the old part of the city below the Acropolis where historically the clothing and textile industry of Greece was centred, and you can still find the individual, old-fashioned haberdashery shops selling everything. I even bought 3 metres of trim in a little shop down a dusty back street but was disappointed to discover on my return to London that it was a shade off.
I eventually realised that if it was so difficult to find, then it really wasn’t a realistic option for when our cushions went for mass manufacturing. I settled on some fun fuschia pink tassels for our flamingo and 2 very simple but sophisticated piping options for our two Birds of Paradise designs.
And the team at www.autumndown.co.uk really did us proud! The samples are beautiful, and apart from a few tweaks, we are almost ready to place our first full cushion order.
Let me know what you think!
