Opening For Business
I’m questioning my sanity in heading ‘West’ with the ‘Beast from the East’ chasing my tail. The train to Bristol is packed, there’s no room to open my computer and work and it seems as though they’ve forgotten to turn on the heating! It’s Sunday night and the forecast is not good!
But, there’s work to do. I’ve got an office day booked in tomorrow with my bestie Becci, the designer of our website. Hours later, feet up in front of the fire, dogs on our laps and we’re catching up after a delicious Sunday roast dinner cooked by Becci’s lovely hubby, Jay. We’ve been friends for a lifetime so there’s lots of stories, nattering and laughing over a bottle of red but there’s also time to go through our products and they both give me some great feedback.
Next morning after we’ve waved Jay off to work and the Billy, Ted and Charlie off to school it’s time to get down to shop building.
And it’s actually a lot more work than either of us imagined! We become bogged down in a swamp of delivery options. What if someone in New Zealand orders 25 notebooks??? ( I hope they do of course!) This is going to need some thought and some weighing scales!
Of course the joy of working with someone you’ve known for such a long time is that you totally understand each other. We discuss ideas, layouts, colours and categories. The ideas come thick and fast and the day passes in a whirl.
Unfortunately that ‘Beast’ is closing in and it’s time to head back to London before travelling becomes a problem.
On the train home I know that I’m actually quite sane! We’ve had such a productive day and I also understand so much more about the workings of our website.
Thanks to our lovely Becci we’re almost ready to launch our online shop…we’ll keep you posted!
Toby Returns to Ireland
Our artist Toby has been living in Ballyandreen in East Cork, Southern Ireland for a long time but for the last 3 years he has been looking after his dad in Watlington, Oxfordshire. He has now been able to return home and has set up a studio overlooking the sea.
Being an Irish girl myself, I’m rather jealous. Ireland is an incredibly beautiful country and there’s something really spectacular about that southern coast, pounded by the Atlantic Sea and lying along the Gulf Stream. It’s wild and windswept and truly magical.
I spent my late teenage years in Cork city so have many happy memories of innocent shenanigans, music and laughter and forged some special lifelong friendships.
Toby tells me the studio is a bit rough and rugged like it’s surroundings but he is feeling so inspired to paint. He’s got down to work immediately.
Our emails cross…I’ve written to tell him that I’ve been browsing the trade fairs in London for inspiration. I tell him that toucans are everywhere. His email tells me of his brisk dog walks down to the sea and he sends me some photos of his latest work in progress…toucans!
